Literature Reviews

What is a literature review?

A literature review is a document that discusses published information about a particular subject area. The term "literature" refers to all of the published research about a topic. The goal of a literature review is to learn about the information that is available about a topic and summarize it. The main difference between a research assignment and a literature review is:

  • Research assignments develop an argument about a topic using information from other sources.

  • Literature reviews discuss information that already exists.
