The LLC has over 140,000 ebooks! Why use ebooks? Here are some reasons:

  • eBooks can be accessed from anywhere and at any time by logging using your library username and password
  • eBooks can be downloaded and read from mobile devices that you can carry with you and access at your convenience
  • Many eBooks allow you to search inside the contents to easily locate information or quotations
  • There are no overdue charges; if you borrow an ebook by downloading it to an electronic device, it will be automatically returned by deleting itself!

Books and films are organized in the LLC using Library of Congress (LC) call numbers

An LC call number is a series of letters and numbers assigned to each item

To find a book, write down the call number and find the book labelled with that call number on the shelf.

Call numbers are given to items according to primary subject area. Items are categorized further by subtopic, author and date of publication.

Call numbers should be read line by line, as described below (from the University of Notre Dame's Hesburgh Libraries):

How to Borrow Books & Films (DVDs)

  1. Search the catalogue for a book or film (DVD)
  2. Find it on the shelf by writing down the call number and locating the item with that call number labelled on the spine of the item
  3. Go to the circulation desk with your student ID card where a library assistant will check it out for you

How to Place Holds on Items

If a library item that you want is checked out, you can place a hold. The item will be held at the main circulation desk for you to pick up after it has been returned.

If no copies are currently available, click Place Hold above the item:

Login by entering your student ID number with BVC, i.e. BVC111111, as the username and the last four digits of your phone number as the password. 

Then, click Place Hold:

When your hold arrives to the LLC, a staff member will contact you by phone or email. You have 3 business days to pick up your hold, otherwise, it will be cancelled. You can also cancel your hold anytime by logging in to your library account.

How to Renew Loans using My Library Account

  1. Go to the front page of the LLC website and click My Library Account under "Helpful Links"
  2. Click “Review My Account”
  3. Login with your library ID number and password
  4. Click “Checkouts”
  5. Select the items you want to renew and click “Renew Selected Items”

The BVC student ID card is also a library card that allows card-holders to borrow materials and use the facilities and services provided by the LLC.
